Dr. Hong-Bing Shu received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Lanzhou University and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in China respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree from Emory University and post-doctoral training with Dr. David Goeddel at Tularik Inc. (now Amgen) in the US. He became an assistant professor in the Department of Immunology at National Jewish Medical and Research Center (now National Jewish Health) in Denver in 1998 and was promoted to associate professor in 2003. He was also a Changjiang professor at Peking University from 2000-2004. Since 2005, Dr. Shu has been a professor at Wuhan University in China, served as the Dean of College of Life Sciences from 2005-2013, Director of the Medical Research Institute from 2014 and Vice President of the University from 2013. Dr. Shu is an elected member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and TWAS. Dr. Shu has focused his work on signal transduction in immunological and inflammatory responses. He has made several seminal contributions on elucidations of the molecular mechanisms of innate antiviral immune responses and signalling by the tumour necrosis factor (TNF) family
